EQC MINUTES
8-16-94
PAGE FOUR
B. Commissioner Trotta expressed concern over only one container labeled for
recycling during the festival. Discussion over the need for additional
recyclable containers through out all parks ensued. The Commissioners
expressed their strong support for source separation recycling and were
interested in using SCORE grant monies for recycling efforts within the
parks. ACTION ITEM: Commissioners directed Ms. Pruitt to investigate
how much funding was available for such a project and what recycling
efforts could be taken over by the Environmental Quality Commission.
Discussion on the amount of time currently devoted to encouraging recycling
efforts continued. He explained the U.S.G.S. adopted a portion of
Rice Creek that is Long Lake and cleaned up 700 pounds of garbage, or 37
bags, from 1 1/4 mile of shoreline. Most of the garbage, he added, was tires
and scrap metal. Future plans, Mr. Trotta explained, are for clean up efforts
north of the Long Lake area.
F.
