The position is a temporary, part-time internship (up to 19
hours per week) that pays $8/hr. and receives no benefits.
The duties and responsibilities of this position have not been fully
performed since the departure of the City's Recycling Coordinator in April
of this year. In the meantime, staff from the Community Development
Department have been performing the necessary responsibilities of the
position to keep the recycling program functioning.
To fill this vacant position, a job announcement was placed in various
publications. The job announcement required the successful candidate to
have a bachelors degree in planning, public administration or related field
and have municipal experience related to recycling. The desired
qualifications included having or working toward a masters degree and
having computer experience. Community Development Coordinator Paul
Harrington and I interviewed the candidates who applied for the position.
Of the six candidates, Laurie Mezera-Kerr was determined to be the best
candidate for the position. Ms. Mezera-Kerr is completing an internship
as a recycling coordinator for the City of Hugo where she started their
recycling program from the beginning stages. She is also working towards
a Masters Degree in Public Administration.
Ms. Mezera-Kerr's references were checked and are satisfactory.
If the Council approves the hire of Ms. Mezera-Kerr, she would be available
to begin working for the City on Monday, December 5.
64-4.4k
Tim Cruikshank, Asst.
