Explanation/Summary (attach supplement sheets as necessary.) SUMMARY; Additional purchases are needed for the maintenance of the golf course - especially for winterization activities. The following is equipment which has been researched by Golf Course Superintendent John Hammerschmidt. He has used several pieces of as demonstrators to be assure of their suitability for the course. John recommends the purchase of the following for winterization activities for The Bridges Golf Course. Greens Aerator - greens need to be aerated at least once each year. The aerator will be used for tees, approaches and collars. For the amount of play The Bridges receives, it is crucial to have this equipment to relieve compaction and improve drainage. Cost is $8,185. Verticle Mowing Units - these are attachments to the Greensmower that prevent thatch formation and are necessary to maintain Penncross bentgrass on the greens. Cost is $2,250. Jacobsen Leaf-blower, Back-Pac Blower and Sweeper - in order to keep the course open for Fall play this equipment is needed to pick up and remove leaves from the trees at the course and practice range. Cost is $3,700 for the leaf blower, $450 for the back-pak blower and $15,000 for the sweeper. Turf Tires - in addition, turf tires are needed for the City's slit seeder. This machine can be used at the golf course if wider turf tires are used, which will be much easier on the course while slit seeding areas. Cost of turf tires is $2,565. Computer System - a computer and printer are needed for the Golf Course Superintendent. The approximate cost is $2,000. • Mary S on, irector of Parks, Recreation and Forestry RECOMMENDATION; To approve the above listed expenditures for equipment used in winterization of the golf course plus a computer system for the Golf Course Superintendent, all to be funded with construction monies intended for expenses during the first year of operation which are referred to as maturation costs.
