Cab OF
1111VREQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION Agenda Section: 16.
S
ST FF REPORT Report Number: 5_, 47Rric
AGENDA SESSION DATE October 2, 1995 Report Date: O_28 95
DISPOSITION
Item Description:
Discussion of Banners along Highway 10
Administrator's Review/Recommendation:
- No comments to supplement this report t
- Comments attached.
Ex•lanation/Summar_y_(attaeh_supplemeat sheets as ecessary.)
UMMAR1%
Last Thursday I received word that MnDot denied our application for a variance to install banners on
the light poles at the intersections on Highway 10. The variance was needed because MnDot does
not allow banners on State Highways with a speed limit greater than 40 MPH. Highway 10's speed
limit is only 10 MPH over their threshold. The only reason the request for a variance was denied
was that the banners would be a distraction from the signal lights.
Jerry Linke has contacted Sen. Novak to appeal on our behalf for the variance. In addition, I have
invited Bruce Hall, Traffic Supervisor, and his boss to the meeting to discuss an appeal for the
variance.
Attached is the application, letter and a copy of MnDot's guidelines for use of right-of-way for special
events.
Cathy Be ett, Economic Development Coordinator
