I understand that the City will need to be granted a variance for the
installation of these banners from MnDot. Therefore, this letter serves as our request to be
.-ximsidered at your next meeting for approval.
The City of Mounds View has been strugaiing with their identity for some time. Highway 10 is
considered as the City Center for Mounds View since retail services and neighborhood facilities
are located in this area. As a result,in 1994 a task force was commissioned to make
recommendations to increase the positive awareness of the City to businesses, residents and the
commuters along Highway 10. One of the recommendations included in the Mounds View
Marketing Program was the installation of Welcome to Mounds View banners. The goal of the
banners is to inform travelers that they are in the main area of the City of Mounds View and to
create a positive community feeling that is so important to residents and businesses alike. I have
included a copy of the Marketing Program for your review.
The City Council has approved the purchase of 25 banners with existing marketing funds and a
grant from Northern States Power. Ten of these banners are proposed for locations on State
Highway 10. The purchase and installation of the banners is contingent upon approval from
MnDot.
The following is an overview of the banners and their locations on State Highway 10.
Size: Ten 30'x 80'Banners
Color: Royal Blue background with Green Tree Design and White Lettering to read
"Pride, Progress and Partnership City of Mounds View" (sample attached)
MINTED WITH
iNKI. 2401 Highway 10 • Mounds View, MN 55112-1499 r
100%recycled Paper
Equal Opportunity Employer
