Explanation/Summary (attach supplement sheets as necessary.) SUMMARY; At the October Work Session, Council received the Community Connections Committee's proposal to conduct several community focus groups to obtain information about the recreational, social, educational and family needs of area residents. The proposal to conduct the focus groups is a result of the Community Connections Committee's examination of a possible joint City/School District facility. The concept of a joint facility, suggested to be an expansion to Edgewood Middle School, is being explored as a means to alleviate overcrowding both at Pinewood and Sunnyside schools in addition to possible space for recreational and social services. The proposal for the focus groups suggests that Ms. Susie Kaiser, a Mounds View resident, former School Board member with experience in focus groups, serve as facilitator for the approximate 9 focus groups. The groups will be composed of parents of elementary, middle and high school students, parents of pre-school students, students of elementary, middle and high schools, adult education and recreation program customers, seniors, educational and social service providers and business representatives. It is proposed that the focus groups be conducted during the months of October and November with the final report presented to the Council at the December Work Session.
