OF
' REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION Agenda Section:OUNDS
18.
STAFF REPORT Report Number: 95-1511WS
iE4 cm..NTI qVQSTIIN TIATV November 6, 1995 Report Date: 11-2-95
Item Description:
Update on Joint City/County Computer System Purchase
Administrator's Review/Recommendation:
- No comments to supplement this report
- Comments attached.
Explanation/Summary (attach supplement sheets as necessary.)
SUMMARY;
At the September Work Session, I talked to you briefly about
the possibility of being linked to the Ramsey County computer system.
I have been meeting with representatives from Ramsey Co. , New
Brighton, and Roseville. The idea of a shared computer system is quickly
becoming a reality.
Our current computer system was purchased in 1986. We pay Masys
Corp. $724 per month to support this system. If we were to continue
with our current system, we would have to update the storage in two
or three years. The cost of this upgrade is estimated at $10, 000. New
Brighton and Roseville face the same problem.
The following are the advantages for a shared system:
1. We would share information with three other entities.
(Possibility to include all of Ramsey Co. in near future)
2. Newer computer system----more options and better report
capabilities.
3. Ramsey Co. Dispatchers would be able to down load "calls for
service" thus eliminating some data entry for our clerical staff.
4. Support services would remain at $724 per month, but then be
reduced to $390 per month after 58 months.
Tim Rama( er, Police Chief
RECOMMENDATION•
