Highway 10 Subcommittee: • The EDC subcommittee will have their first meeting this Friday morning. Paul and I will attend the first meeting to give them guidance on their mission. Upon evaluating the situation the subcommittee will make a report to the EDC for consideration and then recommendations will be made to the EDA. I anticipate the first meeting to be a planning session for this group. Cathy B. INFORMATION SUPERHIGHWAY Lyal Schwarzkopf, former Minneapolis Ci yt Coordhratoranzi-former-Chiefof Staff for Governor Carlson met with Samantha and I on Tuesday to discuss the benefits of Freenet. Freenet is a charitable, volunteer driven, community communications network that promotes the use of communication technology in community activities. Freenet would establish a bank of modems that would enable users to access information that is made available to them. For example, the City could make ordinances, minutes, resolutions, etc. available to those who have access to a computer via this modem bank. This service could also be extended to more interactive activities such as signing up for Park and Recreation Programs. To help keep costs down, Freenet relies on donations of time and materials to operate the program. Multi-Tech has been a large contributor, donating several modems. Lyall is contacting other Cities who want to pursue the use of these type of technologies to determine similar interests. When we receive more information from Lyall, we will update you on this project. POLICE DEPARTMENT ADDING MORE NETWORK USERS The past couple of Friday's, the Chief and I have been doing preparation work to hook-up their three new computers to the network. Hopefully in the next two weeks all of their computers will be on-line. CLUBHOUSE MANAGER The advertisement and job description have been put together for the Clubhouse Manager/Teaching Instructor/Practice Range Manager for the Golf Course. The advertisement will appear in this Sundays Minneapolis and St. Paul newspapers as well as a couple of golf newsletters. A copy of the ad and the job description have been placed in each of your in-baskets. NEWSLETTER COMMITTEE MEETING The newsletter editorial board met on Wednesday to discuss the next newsletter. The scheduled delivery date is Saturday, February 25.
