COURSE; REORGANTZATmNAL STRUCTURE
Since I learned of Kurt Johnson's resignation the day before I left
for Washington, Mary, Kurt and Brus have been working on several
different reorganizational scenarios for the management of the golf
course.
These scenarios (as outlined in the attached memo from Brus) were
presented to the members of the Golf Course Task Force at last
Thursday night's meeting. After discussing the scenarios, it was
their recommendation that the organization structure of the golf
course management be maintained in a manner consistent with the
attached organizational chart.
When Kurt was hired, we had a very unique situation, an overall
course manager and course superintendent in one person. Finding
those same qualifications once again may have proved very
difficult.
The traditional management organization is one in which there is an
overall golf course manager with the Superintendent reporting to
the manager. This responsibility flow provides for maximum
accountability.
The fact that the, Superintendent reports to the Manager does not
detract from the accepted practice that the Superintendent- is the
final authority on the condition of the grounds. It is virtually
unheard of for a Manager not to heed the advice of a Superintendent
on any matter concerning the conditions or playability of the
course. Staff is confident that the relationship between Brus and
a new Superintendent will be one in which the two work
cooperatively for the integrity of the course as the number one
goal.
•
* 4( '
PRINTED WITH
SOY INK, 2401 Highway 10 • Mounds View, MN 55112-1499 4
recycled paper _
