HAND CARRIED TO MONDAY EVENING'S MEETING
CCTV OF
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION AgendaeortNumber:
Section:
Q Report Numbe
STAFF REPORT
Report Date: 3-20-95
OEW Counncilil Action:
❑ Special Order of Business
CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE MARCH 20, 1995 ElPublic Hearings
❑ Consent Agenda
Council Business
Item Description: Consideration of Resolution No. 4736 Authorizing a Plan to Secure a
Dedicated D.A.R.E./Community Oriented Policing Vehicle from Community Donations and
Fnrthir Aui-har-i zP an Tni-Prfun_d Account Transfer
Administrator's Review/Recommendation:
- No comments to supplement this report
- Comments attached.
Explanation/Summary (attach supplement sheets as necessary_)
SUMMARY;
Attached please find a memo from Chief Tim Ramacher and Officer Tom
Baumgart regarding a proposed purchase of a vehicle from Saturn for a
dedicated DARE/Community Oriented Police vehicle.
We had hoped to get the memo to you on Friday, but Officer Baumgart was
hospitalized and it was unclear if he would be well enough to talk to
you on Monday night. He has been released from the hospital and will be
at tonight's meeting to answer questions regarding this proposal.
I brieflyoutlined the
proposal in last Thursday's issue of This Is It.
Officer Baumgart has been working with community members for the past
month, exploring the possibility and finding enthusiastic support in the
community for the proposal. He had hoped to come before the Council at
the April Work Session to outline the plan to the Council and receive I
preliminary authorization to proceed. Unfortunately, Saturn needs to
clear the vehicle off their books and must either turn it over to the 1
City or sell it outright.
Saturn is willing to turn the vehicle over to the City for $5, 000 down
and allow Officer Baumgart until November to secure the remainder of the
community/individual donations.
As Officer Baumgart's memo outlines, he is $4, 000 short of the needed
$5, 000 to secure the vehicle. Although he has $1, 000 in cash commitments
and an additional $2 , 350 in contribution commitments, which the money
will not be in his hands until mid-April.
`ate vol, 4,1
Sama tha Ordun• , City Administ .tor
RECOMMENDATION; Waive the Reading and Approve/Disapprove Resolution No. 4736 Approving
A Contingency Fund Transfer to the Police Crime Prevention Account (100-4202-303)
