Once a crime has been committed, it is the duty <br />of the Department to initiate the Criminal Justice <br />process by identifying and arresting the <br />perpetrator, to obtain the necessary evidence, <br />and to cooperate with other law enforcement <br />agencies and the courts in the prosecution of the <br />case. <br />Recovery and Return of Property <br />The Department makes every reasonable effort to <br />recover lost or stolen property, to identify the <br />owner(s), and to ensure its prompt return. <br />e. Traffic Control <br />To facilitate the safe and expeditious movement <br />of vehicular and pedestrian traffic, the <br />Department enforces traffic laws, investigates <br />traffic accidents, and directs traffic. <br />f. Public Service <br />The public relies on the Police Department for <br />assistance and advice in many routine and <br />emergency situations which occur in the <br />community. Although many of these calls are <br />not police regulated, we respond to those <br />requests and render such aid and/or advice as <br />indicated by the situation. <br />,�3 <br />
