The old high intensity infrared heaters are burning out and are not nearly as efficient as newer tube style. Staff has researched the possibility of installing used oil burning units to use as primary heat, and maintain the old system. Since the city has used oil supply on hand, purchasing oil burners may be a very cost effective alternative. A ventilation problem was identified by the Honeywell report which causes hazardous gases to remain within the building. This situation should be corrected. Total funds for the entire project are included in this estimate. This expenditure is recommended to be funded from the Water and Wastewater funds also. Total project is estimated at $30,800. These pumps control the amount of chlorine, fluoride, and sulfur dioxide injected into the water supply. It is very important that they are accurate and dependable. Staff has performed maintenance and rebuilt these pumps in the past. Should any further breakdowns occur, it will be more efficient to replace these pumps, verses repair them. Estimated cost: $1,000. Program: Infrastructure Maintenance. • Gate valves are in need of installation in various locations in the water distribution system. There are several areas where valves were not installed according to. industry standards. Staff has identified the need for approximately 40 to 50 valve installations. At times of an emergency ie watermain break, staff must isolate the break. Installation of the valves will provide a more effective manner of accomplishing this task, and reduce interruption to the remainder of the system. Staff is recommending that five (5) valves be install every year, for the next ten (10) years. Estimated cost: $5,000. Program: Infrastructure Maintenance An electric pine cutter/threader purchase is requested for 1996. This equipment will enhance productivity and safety in cutting pipe for water service curb boxes.
