A crack filling machine is reauested for purchase in 1996.
Crack filling has become a very important maintenance
procedure to prolong the pavement life of the City's streets.
Staff has been crack filling for the past three (3) years,
with rental machines. Although this practice has been somewhat
acceptable in the past, numerous problems have been
encountered with rental machines. Scheduling, breakdowns,
unreliable equipment, and cost have prompted staff to request
the purchase of this equipment.
Estimated cost: $25,000. Program: Pavement Management
Staff is recommending the purchase of a dump truck equipped
with snow removal equipment for 1996. This truck will be
necessary when the turnbacks are effective. With the
additional mileage the city would then have a ratio of 1 piece
of equipment for every 10 miles of street. This has not been the case
with the current equipment, but as snow removal equipment
ages, it's reliability is lessened. The ability to create safe
driving conditions, is a major concern of staff. The City
currently does not have enough snow removal equipment should
one breakdown. The purchase of this equipment is recommended
to be funded from the Water and Wastewater Funds also. Total
equipment expenditure is estimated at $81,000.
Estimated cost: $28,800. Program: Snow and Ice, and Pavement
Management.
A seasonal position is requested for 1996. This position was
addressed in the 1994 LTFP staffing level projection. The
addition of this position will lessen the amount of projects
and programs that are contracted.
Estimated cost: $ 5,000. Program: Pavement Management.
SURFACE WATER MANAGEMENT
Ditch and retention pond cleaning will be needed in this and
future years program.
Estimated cost: $ 25,000.
WATER
Additional lab equipment is reauested to enable staff to
conduct various tests required by the Safe Water Drinking
Water Act.
Estimated cost: $ 1,500. Program: Water Production.
System maintenance is reauired on a scheduled basis for all
wells and pumps. This procedure provides preventative
A A
