REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
STAFF REPORT
AGENDA SESSION DATE .TirnP 5, 1995
Agenda Section: a .
Report Number: 95-1367ws
Report Date: o
DISPOSITION
Item Description: Consideration of Resolution No. 4774 Hiring of Recycling Intern
Administrator's Review/Recommendation:
- No comments to supplement this report
- Comments attached.
Explanation/Summary (attach supplement sheets as necessary.)
,SUMMARY;
In May, Recycling Intern Laurie Mezera-Kerr accepted a position in the
Administration Department with the City of Golden Valley. After
consultation with the City Council, Staff took the necessary steps to fill
the vacancy.
To fill this vacant position, a job announcement was placed in various
publications. The job announcement required the successful candidate to
have a bachelors degree in planning, public administration or related field
and have municipal experience related to recycling. The desired
qualifications included having or working toward a masters degree and
having computer experience. Community Development Secretary Barb Benesch
and I interviewed the candidates who applied for the position. Of the five
candidates, Peter Lindstrom was determined to be the best candidate for the
position. Mr. Lindstrom has experience in program administration and as
an undergraduate at Saint John's University, began and administered the on -
campus recycling program. Mr. Lindstrom holds a BA Degree in Government
from Saint John's University and a Master's of Public Administration from
Hamline.
Mr. Lindstrom's references were checked and are satisfactory.
If the Council approves the hire of Mr. Lindstrom, he would be available
to begin working for the City on Tuesday, June 6.
Please note that this position is funded entirely out of SCORE fund money
which the City obtained through Ramsey County. The position would be
temporary, part-time (up to 19 hours per week) with no benefits. Salary
would be set at $8.50/hr.
P u1 Harrington, Communiy Development Coordinator
RECOMMENDATION;
Motion to waive reading and adopt Resolution No. 4774, hiring Peter
Lindstrom for the position of Recycling Intern, funding to come from Ramsey
County SCORE Grant budgeted in 290-4121-010.
