REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION Agenda Section: 5.
©MMS
STAFF REPORT Report Number: 9 4-10 5 5WS
nif
AGENDA SESSION DATE February 7 , 19 9 4 Report Date: —W 2 —9 4
DISPOSITION
Item Description:
Golf Course Buildings Update
Administrator's Review/Recommendation:
- No comments to supplement this report
- Comments attached.
Explanation/Summary (attach supplement sheets as necessary.)
SUMMARY;
The Golf Course Task Force met last Tuesday, February 1, 1994 at 6:00 p.m. The single item on the agenda was
the second and final round of draft clubhouse plans. John Kohler, architect with Runyon/Vogel brought in the
revised plans per the Task Force's previous meeting regarding the first round of plans.
The Task Force members present were very happy with the plans and reviewed and provided direction regarding
the list of materials, plans and timeline for construction. These are attached. All these items are subject to
change depending upon cost. Alternates will be included in hopes of being able to afford some of the things the
Task Force believes would be nice in the clubhouse ie. oak wooden decorative gable vs. stained board.
John Kohler will be present at this Work Session on Monday, February 7, 1994 to review with the City Council
members the plans which the Task Force has recommended thus far. The timeline shows that after Council's
review, John Kohler will proceed with specifications and put the specs out for estimate to see whether or not the
building is within budget. The overall scope provides for $85.00 per square foot which John believes to be a very
good amount for this building.
John is looking into the possibility of purchasing a Lester or Morton maintenance building with the idea that if
money can be saved on the maintenance building, more money can be devoted to the clubhouse building. All
Task Force members were in agreement with this idea. This idea originally was recommended by Public Works
Superintendent Mike Ulrich who provided information and the suggestion. John Kohler thought that it was an
excellent idea and has personally had experience with such buildings with great success.
The timeline is to have the maintenance building completed by August 15, at which time maintenance activity will
be necessary on the course. The clubhouse building will be constructed in tandem with the maintenance building,
having the foundations poured at the same time and then piggy-backing each step. It is assumed that the
maintenance building will take approximately three months to complete. Therefore, construction must begin no
later than May 1. Construction documents will be brought to the Council for approval March 14 with documents
sent out for bid March 18 -31 so the bid can be awarded by Council on April 11, 1994. This will put us on track
for the construction of the golf course buildings beginning May 1st.
NAME THE GOLF COURSE! The Task Force has suggested that a contest be held for the naming of the golf
course. An article would be printed in the March/April City Newsletter requesting suggestions for the name of
the golf course. A monetary prize would be awarded for the winning name. The Task Force is also interested in
the choosing of a "crest"which looks so very elegant hanging in the exterior eaves of the clubhouse.
L-7/ '
RECOMMENDATION:
Saarion, Director
arks, Recreation and Forestry
