Item No: 8A <br />Meeting Date: March 22, 2010 <br />Type of Business: Consent <br />Administrator Review: ____ <br /> <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: James Ericson, Clerk - Administrator <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 7600 Accepting a Donation from Bethlehem <br />Baptist Church <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />Bethlehem Baptist Church purchased the building located at 5151 Program Avenue in <br />2004 and received City zoning approval to renovate the former office / warehouse <br />space for church usage. At the same time, the Church expressed its desire to sponsor <br />and support worthy community endeavors and created the Mounds View Service <br />Project Fund pledging annual donations totaling $25,000. They envisioned the fund to <br />be used to help meet certain community needs jointly identified by the city and the <br />Church that would be “in harmony” with their mission and values. <br /> <br />Discussion <br /> <br />Representatives from the City, the Community Center and the Park & Rec Commission <br />met with representatives from Bethlehem Baptist Church facility on February 17, 2010 <br />to discuss potential funding opportunities for the first half 2010 service project fund <br />donation which totaled $16,892. A number of programs and improvements were <br />highlighted for Bethlehem’s consideration. Subsequent to the meeting, staff put <br />together various cost estimates associated with the projects and programs discussed, <br />forwarding this information to the Church on February 22, 2010. The Church responded <br />with a letter dated March 4, 2010, recommending the following disbursement schedule: <br /> <br />1. $6000 YMCA's Club Mid program <br />2. $2000 Laptops for Homework Help (Community Center) <br />3. $6000 Ice Rink Improvements at Hillview Park <br />4. $2892 Trailway amenities, benches, park sign landscaping, etc. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Attached for your consideration is Resolution 7600, a resolution which accepts the <br />donations from Bethlehem Baptist Church in the amount of $16,892 and authorizes the <br />distribution of the donations according to the Church’s recommendations. <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />James Ericson <br />Clerk-Administrator
