Resolution 7591, Approving an Amended and Restated Joint Powers 12 <br />Agreement with the North Metro Mayors Association. 13 <br /> 14 <br />Mayor Flaherty indicated he pulled this item to further explain the North Metro Mayors 15 <br />Association. He explained this was a worthwhile organization and understands the conditions all 16 <br />cities are facing right now. Mayor Flaherty explained the North Metro Mayors Association 17 <br />reduced their membership fees to retain members. 18 <br /> 19 <br />Clerk-Administrator Ericson added there was an effort in this Association to create a joint 20 <br />powers purchasing group to reduce overall expenses among cities by pooling resources and 21 <br />working together to operate more efficiently. 22 <br /> 23 <br />Council Member Mueller suggested the new City logo be submitted to the Association. 24 <br /> 25 <br />MOTION/SECOND: Flaherty/Mueller. Resolution 7592, Supporting Broadband Technology Opportunity Program 32 <br />(BTOP) Grant Applications for a Comprehensive Community Network to 33 <br />Benefit Public Institutions in the North East Twin Cities Metropolitan Area. 34 <br /> 35 <br />Council Member Mueller thanked staff for the thorough report on the Broadband Technology 36 <br />Opportunity Program and suggested it be posted on the City website. She asked staff for more 37 <br />information about the grant opportunity and how getting the grant would affect residents. 38 <br />Finance Director Beer explained the City meets all seven criteria required within the grant and it 39 <br />would allow the City access to dark fiber, providing for greater connectivity in the community. 40 <br /> 41 <br />Mayor Flaherty stated dark fiber would be the technology of the future and fit with the Council’s 42 <br />goals and priorities for 2010. 43 <br /> 44
