SPECIAL ORDER OF BUSINESS 13
A. Report and Update from Barbara Haake regarding Metropolitan Airports 14
Commission (MAC) and Metropolitan Council activity affecting the Anoka 15
County/Blaine Airport 16
17
Barbara Haake thanked the Council for their time and for accommodating her this evening. She 18
noted the Metropolitan Council was updating their Transportation Policy Plan, which will in turn 19
affect the Anoka County/Blaine Airport. A study was completed on the airport and affects of the 20
economy have shown a reduction in use over the past two years. 21
22
Ms. Haake noted that the change in capacity has led the Metropolitan Airports Commission to 23
believe the current runway length was sufficient. She explained the two parallel runways would 24
remain in the long term comprehensive plan to save the usage if there were to be a change in the 25
future. Ms. Haake further reviewed the minor one and minor two airport definitions with the 26
Council. The final plan, however, from the Metropolitan Council would not change the 27
classification of the airport from its current status. Ms. Haake stated she would keep the Council 28
apprised of any upcoming issues. 29
30
Council Member Mueller questioned the timeline of the Haake bill. Ms. Haake indicated the 31
Haake bill limits the runway to 5,000 feet for the next 10 years. 32
33
Ms. Haake reported she would attend a meeting with the North Suburban Communications 34
Commission on Saturday, March 20, 2010, 9:00 a.m., at the Roseville Studio. The Commission 35
will discuss strategic planning and cost allocation for the future. 36
37
8. CONSENT AGENDA 38
39
Council Member Mueller asked to remove Item C from the Consent Agenda to allow the Finance 40
Director to speak on the issue. 41
42
Mayor Flaherty indicated he would like to remove Item B from the Consent Agenda for further 43
discussion. 44
45
