Sgt
Mike Kampa retired on July 30, 2010 after a 31 year career in law enforcement. The past 23
years have been as a Mounds View Police Officer. The department will miss his dedication
and cheerful demeanor. The department also saw the departure of the latest Public Service
Officer. Therefore, the process is underway to find the next Public Service Officer (PSO)
replacement.

On September 13, 2010, the city council approved the appointment of Tom Kinney as the
Chief of Police. Chief Kinney is a 25 year veteran of the department, with the last 6 years
serving as Deputy Chief. An oath of office ceremony was held during the council meeting on
September 27, 2010. The police chief position had not been filled since the retirement of
Chief Mike Sommer on October 30, 2009.
