2008 Mounds View Comprehensive Plan
________________________________________________________________________

Chapter 6: Transportation
Trails
6-31

rden
oad

Mounds View adopted a resolution establishing a comprehensive trailways system policy in 1992.
The goals of this program include:

1. Helping to promote pedestrian and bicycle safety in the city.
2. Providing a trailway system that connects recreational opportunities within the city.
3. Provide trail links to Ramsey and Anoka counties and to adjacent cities’ trail systems.

Mounds View has an opportunity to link to the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional Park Corridor,
which is an important regional trailway system. This corridor includes trailways through the
following cities:
• Centerville
• Circle Pines
• Shoreview
• Arden Hills
• Mounds View
• New Brighton
• Fridley
• Connects to the Mississippi River Trail.

The Rice Creek Trail is a joint effort between Anoka and Ramsey Counties. Mounds View lies in the
middle of this corridor. Upon completion, Mounds View would have access to the Centerville chain
of lakes in one direction and the Mississippi River Trail in the other direction. The portion that is in
Mounds View lies along Rice Creek and provides a link from the TCAAP (arsenal) property in A
Hills to the Long Lake Regional Park in New Brighton. A portion of the trail paralleling County R
H has already been completed.

Ramsey County trailway connections that serve Mounds View include a route to downtown St. Paul
through Shoreview on a trailway on County Road I. Mounds View also has the opportunity to
connect with trailways leading to downtown Minneapolis via Silver Lake Road. Potential connections
to this trailway would include Long Lake Road/County Road H or a Groveland/Knollwood/Pleasant
View Drive route.

Existing or proposed connections to adjacent cities include County Road I and County Road J
connections to Shoreview, Long Lake Road, Silver Lake Road, and Old Highway 8 connections to
New Brighton, and County Road H, County Road H2 and County Road I connections to Fridley.
Figure 22 on page 6-33 shows the existing and proposed trails in Mounds View.
