2008 Mounds View Comprehensive Plan
________________________________________________________________________

Chapter 8: Intergovernmental Coordination

8-2
Policies

The City of Mounds View strives to maintain and build effective relationships and communication
with other agencies. Such practices will maximize the benefits for the residents of Mounds View
through the following policies:

Policies:

a. Maintain effective communication with other agencies, particularly about future
development and redevelopment in neighboring cities.

b. Support collaborative planning efforts for issues and matters that affect multiple jurisdictions
or agencies.

c. Continue to support and participate in the North Metro 35W Corridor Coalition and North
Metro Mayor’s Association.

d. Work with others such as the Mounds View School District, YMCA, and adjacent cities to
provide cost effective services to Mounds View residents.

e. Work with the Rice Creek Watershed District to effectively manage surface water in Mounds
View.

f. Continue to work with other cities to provide services jointly such as fire protection, forestry
and information technology support to area residents.

Existing Collaborations

State of Minnesota

The State of Minnesota provides a variety of services to city residents. Two state agencies tend to
affect city residents more than others. These include the Minnesota Department of Transportation
(MnDOT) and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). MnDOT has jurisdiction over two
highways in the city – I 35W and US Highway 10. The DNR is visible with respect to activities
pertaining to the City’s lakes, lakeshore areas, wetlands and other protected waters.

In the State Legislature, Senate District 51 and House District 51B represent Mounds View. The
City Council meets annually with the State Representative to discuss local issues and concerns that
state policies and actions affect.
