2008 Mounds View Comprehensive Plan <br />________________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />Chapter 8: Intergovernmental Coordination <br /> <br />8-2 <br />Policies <br /> <br />The City of Mounds View strives to maintain and build effective relationships and communication <br />with other agencies. Such practices will maximize the benefits for the residents of Mounds View <br />through the following policies: <br /> <br />Policies: <br /> <br />a. Maintain effective communication with other agencies, particularly about future <br />development and redevelopment in neighboring cities. <br /> <br />b. Support collaborative planning efforts for issues and matters that affect multiple jurisdictions <br />or agencies. <br /> <br />c. Continue to support and participate in the North Metro 35W Corridor Coalition and North <br />Metro Mayor’s Association. <br /> <br />d. Work with others such as the Mounds View School District, YMCA, and adjacent cities to <br />provide cost effective services to Mounds View residents. <br /> <br />e. Work with the Rice Creek Watershed District to effectively manage surface water in Mounds <br />View. <br /> <br />f. Continue to work with other cities to provide services jointly such as fire protection, forestry <br />and information technology support to area residents. <br /> <br />Existing Collaborations <br /> <br />State of Minnesota <br /> <br />The State of Minnesota provides a variety of services to city residents. Two state agencies tend to <br />affect city residents more than others. These include the Minnesota Department of Transportation <br />(MnDOT) and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). MnDOT has jurisdiction over two <br />highways in the city – I 35W and US Highway 10. The DNR is visible with respect to activities <br />pertaining to the City’s lakes, lakeshore areas, wetlands and other protected waters. <br /> <br />In the State Legislature, Senate District 51 and House District 51B represent Mounds View. The <br />City Council meets annually with the State Representative to discuss local issues and concerns that <br />state policies and actions affect.
