2008 Mounds View Comprehensive Plan
________________________________________________________________________

Chapter 8: Intergovernmental Coordination

8-3
Ramsey County

Ramsey County provides a variety of services to residents of Mounds View. The most visible of
these are the Ramsey County Library, the county road system and the trails, parks and open space
system. Residents also benefit from social services, public safety and waste management/recycling
programs administered by Ramsey County.

The facilities and services provided by Ramsey County contribute to the quality of life enjoyed by
Mounds View residents and businesses. Mounds View works closely with Ramsey County to
provide an efficient transportation system that minimizes adverse impacts on the residential areas of
the city and to provide services and facilities that meet the needs of the residents.

School District

Mounds View Public Schools (ISD 621) serves the residents of several cities in the area, including
Mounds View. Land use decisions can have an impact on the school district’s ability to provide
quality educational services to their students. City staff informs the school district of land use or
development proposals that might have an impact on the school population.

The City of Mounds View does and will continue to work with the school district to jointly use
facilities and provide programs to best serve the residents of the city. Maintaining a strong public
school system is essential to attract young families to the city and is critical to maintain property
values. In recognition of the benefits of a strong school district and to ensure the efforts of the City
are consistent with maintaining the quality of this system, Mounds View will:

• Support the efforts of the School Board to maintain a quality education system.

• Continue to consider opportunities for joint projects and programs that will benefit city
residents and community groups.

Ramsey County GIS Users Group

The Ramsey County GIS Users Group is an alliance of current and future users of Geographic
Information Systems (GIS). The users in the group include municipalities, school districts, and soil
and water conservation districts. The group was formed in May of 1995 and has since grown to
include 22 organizations. The User Group operates autonomously from Ramsey County but relies
on their cooperation in the distribution mechanism for GIS data by the County.
