April 13, 2009 Item No. 7I
Page 5
Proposed Change Order No. 1 to the 2009-2010 SUIP
Change Order No. 1 to the 2009-2010 Street and Utility Improvement Project has
been prepared to modify the contract to allow the additional slip lining work to be
performed as part of the project. A copy of proposed Change Order No. 1 is
attached to this Staff Report for reference.
Since the slip lining work is proposed at a new, lower cost of $29.93 per foot, the
line item for the work at the original price of $34.00 per foot would be deleted
from the original contract. In addition, for the 8 segments of sewer where spot
repairs were proposed but that would now be slip lined, the line items for the spot
repairs would also be deleted from the original contract. The deletions from the
original contract are shown in Part A of the proposed Change Order No. 1, and
total a reduction of $30,680.50.
Part B of proposed Change Order No. 1 would add the slip lining to the contract
at the lower price of $29.93 per foot. The slip lining work would include the
sewer segment proposed to be slip lined in the original contract, plus the 8
segments of sewer that had previously proposed for spot repairs. In addition, the
funds available in the 2009 budget will allow for the top 6 ranked segments in
terms of root problems to also be included in the work. This is a total of 15
segments that would be slip lined (out of the 41 segments identified by the Public
Works Staff.) The total length of the sewer to be slip lined is 4,819 feet.
A summary of the proposed Change Order No. 1 is shown below:
Proposed Change Order No. 1
2009-2010 Street and Utility Improvement Project
Part A – Deductions
- Slip lining 1 segment of sewer at original price
- Spot repairs in 8 segments of sewer
Total deductions $30,680.50
Part B – Slip Lining Added
- 1 segment to be slip lined in original contract
- 8 segments where spot repairs had been proposed
- 6 top ranked segments in terms of roots
Total segments to be slip lined: 15 (out of 41)
Total cost of slip lining $144,232.67
Net Addition due to Change Order No. 1 $113,552.17
