He indicated that member cities will assure the many tourism opportunities in this area 5 <br />will be promoted. 6 <br /> 7 <br /> Ayes – 5 Nays – 0 Motion carried. 8 <br /> 9 <br />D. Resolution 7426, Approving the Mermaid 2nd Addition Final Plat. 10 <br /> 11 <br />Community Development Director Roberts presented the request of The Mermaid for final plat 12 <br />approval and indicated that nothing has changed since preliminary plat consideration. 13 <br /> 14 <br />MOTION/SECOND: Gunn/Hull. To Waive the Reading and Adopt Resolution 7426, 15 <br />Approving the Mermaid 2nd Addition Final Plat. 16 <br /> 17 <br />Council Member Mueller asked if the City has a copy of the hold harmless agreement 18 <br />acknowledging the two buildings. City Attorney Riggs stated his staff is working on that 19 <br />agreement and that requirement is contained as Condition 3. 20 <br /> 21 <br /> Ayes – 4 Nays – 1 (Stigney) Motion carried. 22 <br /> 23 <br />E. Resolution 7433, Authorizing Application for the 2009 COPS Police Hiring 24 <br />Grant. 25 <br /> 26 <br />Police Chief Sommer presented staff’s recommendation to submit a grant application for funding 27 <br />under the COPS hiring program that will cover 100% of the hiring cost for three years with the 28 <br />condition that the officer will be retained for an additional year. 29 <br /> 30 <br />Mayor Flaherty opened the floor for public comment. There was none. 31 <br /> 32 <br />MOTION/SECOND: Mueller/Gunn. To Waive the Reading and Adopt Resolution 7433, 33 <br />Authorizing Approval to Proceed with a Grant Application to the Department of Justice COPS 34 <br />Hiring Program for one new Police Officer. 35 <br /> 36 <br />Council Member Stigney asked if the Mounds View Police Department is short staffed. Police 37 <br />Chief Sommer stated one officer is retiring and there will be a lag in hiring a replacement for that 38 <br />position. 39 <br /> 40 <br />Council Member Hull asked when the other two Sergeants are expected to retire. Police Chief 41 <br />Sommer stated they have not indicated a date; however, it is anticipated to occur within three to 42 <br />four years. Council Member Hull noted Police Chief Sommer had previously indicated the 43 <br />current level of staff was satisfactory. Police Chief Sommer stated that was before they were 44 <br />aware of this grant opportunity. 45
