Item No: 7G <br />Meeting Date: September 28, 2009 <br />Type of Business: CB <br />Administrator Review: ____ <br /> <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Nick DeBar, Public Works Director / <br /> Joe Rhein, Consulting Engineer <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 7504 Authorizing Preliminary Surveying Services <br />for Area D of the Street and Utility Improvement Program <br /> <br />Background <br />On October 22, 2007 the City Council adopted Resolution 7176 establishing the Street <br />and Utility Improvement Program. The Program includes nine Street and Utility <br />Improvement Projects identified as Areas A through I. <br /> <br />On February 11, 2008 the City Council approved Resolution 7223 creating the Streets <br />and Utilities Committee. The overall charge of the Committee is to ensure the Street <br />and Utility Improvement Program is implemented as adopted and to advise and provide <br />recommendations to the City Council on certain issues pertaining to the Program. <br /> <br />On February 23, 2009 the City Council adopted Resolution 7414 awarding the <br />construction contract for Area A of the Street and Utility Improvement Program. <br /> <br />On July 13, 2009 the City Council adopted Resolution 7478 ordering the project and <br />authorizing preparation of plans and specifications for Areas B and C of the Street and <br />Utility Improvement Program. <br /> <br /> <br />Discussion <br />Area A of the Street and Utility Improvement Program is currently under construction. <br />The project for Areas B and C of the Program has been ordered, and construction plans <br />are currently being prepared. Areas B and C will be combined under a single project <br />scheduled for construction in 2010. <br /> <br />The next project for consideration under the Street and Utility Improvement Program is <br />Area D. Assuming the City wishes to continue the Street and Utility Improvement <br />Program without interruption, Area D would be scheduled for construction in 2011. A <br />copy of the overall Street and Utility Improvement Program map is included with this <br />Staff Report for reference. <br /> <br />A typical schedule for the projects under the Street and Utility Improvement Program <br />was developed in January 2008. A copy of the typical project schedule is also included <br />with this Staff Report for reference. The typical project schedule shows the first activity <br />to be performed is the preliminary survey. The Preliminary Survey is the data collected
