Administrator’s Report
January 14, 2008
Page 3

8. Northwest Youth and Family Services

Northwest Youth and Family Services is holding their annual Outstanding Service to Youth
award ceremony on Thursday, February 7, 2008 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm at the New Brighton
Family Service Center. Cost to attend the award ceremony is $25. Council members and
appointed officials often attend the NYFS awards ceremony. Registrations are requested by
February 1. One of this year’s award recipients is none other than Wendy Marty!

9. Metropolitan Council’s State of the Region” Event

The Metropolitan Council will hold its 2008 State of the
Region event at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 4, at the new
Minneapolis Central Library, 300 Nicollet Mall, in
downtown Minneapolis. Council Chair Peter Bell will
discuss the progress made by the region in the last
year and plans for the future, including the latest on the
Northstar commuter rail line, the Central Corridor light
rail transit (LRT) line and other planned transit
improvements. The Council also will release the
results of its annual opinion survey of metro area
residents, its 2007 annual report and its annual
compilation of regional indicators. In addition, there will
be a demonstration of the new interactive mapping tool
on the Council’s website. Minneapolis Mayor R.T.
Rybak will be on hand to deliver welcoming remarks. The event is free and open to the
public, but seating is limited. If the Council is interested in attending, I would be happy to
coordinate the registration for this event.

10. North Metro Mayors Association Press Conference
The North Metro Mayor’s Association will be holding a press conference on January 28,
2008 to highlight the need for additional transportation funding for Minnesota NOW and for
our North Metro Area specifically. The press conference will be held at the Maple Grove
Government Center. Council members are encouraged to attend and would provide us with
an opportunity to point out needs specific to Mounds View, such as the lack of a soundwall.

Respectfully submitted,

________________________
James Ericson
Interim City Administrator

Exterior view of the Minneapolis
Central Library at 300 Nicollet Mall
in downtown Minneapolis
