Field-testing comparison

The Itron 60 Watt radio device and the Neptune R900 radio devices were both field
tested (specific spot tests) in regards to their ability to transmit and receive
readings. There were two locations that were tested; one inside Edgewood Middle
School, and the other at the Drivers Examination Station in Arden Hills - which
Mounds View supplies water to. Both systems performed equally in ability to
obtain readings from these hard to read locations. It therefore appears that both
systems seem are able to work in all foreseeable City of Mounds View
applications.

There are generally two types of devises that will receive and display readings
from the meter transmitters – hand held units and mobile data collectors. While
field-testing the Neptune R900 radio read devices, staff went on a meter reading
demonstration in Coon Rapids. The handheld unit tested well, however, the
mobile data collector performed much better. The mobile data collector was able
to read meters at a much greater distance than the handheld unit. Both reading
devices will work, however, the mobile data collector will greatly reduce reading
time in the field.

No field test of the Itron 60 W att radio device was performed due to no city was
identified to have the Itron 60 Watt system. The City of Eden Prairie has since
been identified to have this system. Transmitting and reading tests could be
performed if necessary.

Warranty Comparison

The Neptune R900 radio device

The Neptune R900 has a 10-year, 100% replacement warranty, and an
additional 10 year pro rated warranty on both the radio device and the
battery.
