RC SOLID WASTE 612 633 0571 P.02
RAMSEY COUNTY
Department of Public Health
Division of Solid Waste
Zack Hansen, Manager
1910 West County Road B, #206
Roseville, MN 55113
March 31, 1994
Ms. Samantha Orduno
City of Mounds View
2401 Highway 10
Mounds View, MN 55112
Dear Samantha:
Tel: 612-292.7900
Fax: 612-633-0571
I am writing with regard to the yard waste site located in Ardan'Park
in the City of Mounds View. You have requested a status report on the
Division's research into the closing or relocation of the yard waste
site. I am sorry that no one from the Division of Solid Waste is able
to attend your City Council Working Session on April 4, but we are
previously committed to attend a Maplewood Planning Commission meeting
on that same night.
Survey Data
The City and County distributed a postcard survey to residents of
Mounds View through the City newsletter last month. The Division
received 282 responses, and the results are summarized in an
attachmentto this letter. From the survey it can be concluded that
the respondents were primarily users of the site. Should the site be
closed they would most likely use other County sites. The overwhelming
majority (89.4%) stated that the site should remain where it is. There
was no objection to being asked for identification. Finally, if the
site were moved to an area near the new golf course, most respondents
would use it with the same frequency as the current site.
Site Use Data
The Mounds View site is the least busy site of the eight managed by
Ramsey County. The number of site visits at Mounds View and all eight
sites for the past three years is shown below.
Year Mounds View All Sites % of All Sites
1991 18,143 297,123 6.0%
1992 23,452 320,489 7.3%
1993 24,369 377,728 6.5%
In 1993 the seasonal site use was as follows: Spring: 7,634 visits,
summer: 6,440 visits, fall: 10,295 visits. Based on survey data we are
able to calculate the number of households served by the site (this
takes into account multiple visits by•the same household). The number
of households served by the site in the spring of 1993 was 3,172,
summer was 2,298, and fall was 2,198. According to the 1990 Census,
Mounds View had 3,112 households (single family through fourplex).
Minnesota's First Home Rule County
prf Wad ua IyI d paper with a mlhlm4m of IO%poatammumer aunbal
