inspections will be completed, ready for play. Irondale's Girl's Fast Pitch team will be
the first to use our fields for scheduled play - at Silver View Park. Adult league play
begins Monday, April 18. MVAA has scheduled City Hall for practices for try-outs.
Watch out! Baseball/softball players - here they come!
We are having limited success on graffiti removal. The stuff that we have lightens the
graffiti but also discolors the panels and provides roughness. In additional, two
panels at Greenfield Park took approximately a whole afternoon of Steve and Jeff's
time. LABOR INTENSE!!
RECREATION:
There has-been-an-increase-of-4-adult softball teamsthisyear over last years -- -
statistics. The mixed couples softball league has grown this year. Adult softball profits
subsidize a number of youth and general programs and recreation capital items. For
instance, the profits from last year's adult softball profits are paying for the netting at
Greenfield Park baseball field. In additional, adult softball pays for labor and
materials used for athletic groundskeeping. The great thing about adult softball is
that 74 teams can play every week with only using three fields - of course we
schedule adult games solidly with hour limit games - back to back - having the
control to serve a huge number of teams and players using limited field space.
Sharie will be attending a conference this Friday and Saturday on City Festivals and
Events sponsored by the Minnesota Festival and Events Association being held in
Brooklyn Park. This looks to be a great conference with lots of ideas and information
being exchanged.
The Garden Club met Tuesday to plan the plantings in front of City Hall. They are a
great group of energetic gardeners. It'll be fun to see what they do this year in front
of City Hall. In addition to flowers, they will be planting the bushes along the front
City Hall building.
SCHOOL VACATION BOREDOM BUSTERS has been a great success. Every day this
week trips are scheduled for the children of the community who are on Spring Break.
Mary and Brad have been chaperoning the trips along with other recreation staff
available.
We are in the process of reviewing the application for summer playground leaders.
Interviews will begin next week. There were many good applications received for two
open positions. Ten leaders are returning from last year.
CABLE TV
Congratulations to Jerry Skelly who has a new little baby boy named Zachary, born
last Thursday, March 31.
