DAY FIREFIGHTERS NEEDED
We are seeking mature, stable people that are able to respond during daytime hours, from six in
the morning to six in the evening. If you are available on a regular basis for the majority of this
time, then come in and talk to us.
If you have a strong commitment to serve your community and help your fellow neighbor then the
fire department can offer you many challenges and rewards. The fire department offers many
services to the community other than fire suppression. Our public education committee
researches and develops programs on fire safety and the entire crew gets involved in presenting
these to the public. The investigation division investigates every fire to determine the cause, if
arson is involved we work with the police agencies to bring these people to justice. We have the
most comprehensive juvenile Firesetter program in the State. We work with families and kids to
help them understand the dangers of fire and the consequences of playing with fire.
Every summer we have many pieces of our apparatus in various parades around the community.
Every winter we take Santa on the fire truck throughout the three communities and deliver good
will and candy canes to the people who live here.
The personal rewards are many. Friendships that last for a lifetime are routine on the fire
department. Educational opportunities are endless in the fire service. Personal growth, teaching
opportunities, and combating the deadly threat of fire are some of the challenges that await you.
There is a down side in belonging to the fire department. You will be inconvenienced by calls in
the middle of the night. Fire calls will interrupt your family dinner or other plans you may have
made. You might be late or too tired to go to work. Fighting fires may take only a small part of
the time you are on. Cleanup, training and all the other activities will take up far more time than
the actual fire fighting. What we do is very dangerous, training helps us keep safe and we have an
excellent long term safety record.
If you are the stable, mature, community service oriented individual we seek, please give us a call
and we will set up a time to talk with you. Our requirements state that you must stay on the day
shift for at least three years, pass an agility test, and complete 60 hours of recruit training over a
six week time period. We drill once a week and you are required to make 28 out of 52 weekly
drills. You will be assigned to one of our five stations and you must make 30% of all the fire calls
received by that station. This is calculated on a quarterly basis.
Spring Lake Park- Blaine - Mounds View Fire Department
1710 Highway 10 Spring Lake Park, MN 55432 786-4436
