If you suffer a temporary fire department disability or injury, in addition to the workers comp
coverage the Relief Association will pay you a benefit of$25.00 per day for up to 26 weeks. We
maintain your membership in the Volunteer Fireman's Benefit Association which pays you $40.00
per day for 200 days. In addition to this we maintain a supplemental insurance policy that kicks in
after one week and pays $35.00 per day. This equals $100.00 per day in addition to the Workers
Compensation wage you reimbursement.
If you suffer a permanent fire related disability, you are eligible for a prorated pension based on
your current years of service. This is the only pension you can receive should you have less than
10 years of good service. The payment of this pension starts immediately upon proof of the
permanent disability. Payment to your spouse and children upon your death are at the same
percentages.
The State and Federal Governments maintain line of duty death benefits in excess of$100,000.00.
We have a special duty classification for people who are only able to respond during certain time
periods. Usually these people work in our area but do not live in the area so they are only able to
respond when at work. The majority of the above benefits apply to these people. The retirement
pension benefits are available on a prorated basis.
FILE:AMIRPO?DOCS/BENFITIN/MARCH 2,1994/1
