Johnson
2706 Lake Court Drive Mounds View, Minnesota 55112
Telephone/Fax– 612-783-1184
May 12, 1994
Ms. Mary Saarion
Director
Parks and Recreation -
Mounds View Municipality
Dear Mary:
Last year we talked of the problems of baseballs hitting our house when the teams play
at the park in back of our house. We were told that in the budget for the municipality
for this year, there would be funds to erect an additional ten-foot chain link fence to
stop the balls from coming over.
Now we hear that those funds have been cut. This is not only short-sighted, but unfair!
To date, we have eight dents in our siding. The siding needs to be replaced. My
neighbor, Glenn Partridge, also has some dents. The neighbors on the other side, the
Krebs, are not happy with their situation either.
Last year, we suggested—as a stop-gap--putting up some more evergreen trees. (We
donated $150.00 to the city for that purpose.) To no avail. You would have to have a
forest 15 feet high of closely planted trees.
Another option, of course, would be to skew home plate, so that the players will bat
more toward the south.
The chain link fence would probably be the best bet, however.
Now there is some urgency about the situation. We travel a lot in the summer. If a
window is broken and someone goes into the house and ransacks the place, or rain
ruins carpets and furniture, the city of Mounds View's legal cost from a lawsuit would be
substantial.
We just don't want the tension and worry of leaving our home with the potential of
smashed windows.
Therefore, we are asking prompt action. We mean by June 15 to alleviate this
situation.
We are not cranks,. We love living in Mounds View, but enough is enough.
Sincerely,
Nancy k. Johnson and Emmett(y)Johnson
