PARKS, RECREATION AND FORESTRY
PARKS:
1. The Police are our heros . . . they located the missing handicapped picnic
table from Silver View Park. The table was found in a wooded area behind
Long Lake Road on the Greenwood utility easement. I understand that the
"campsite" was a great one. Must have been some good times back there.
Anyway, I am happy to have the table back since they are very expensive. It
will be back at Silver View Park as soon as some "crincks" can be straightened
out. The table weighs a ton - - it must have taken 4 people with a pick-up
truck to transport that table.
2. We are happy to introduce a new parks worker, Adam Peterson, a Mounds
View resident. He is working with the Parks Crew, supervised by Steve, but
paid by Ramsey County Youth Program. It is a good deal for us because he is
a great worker and asset to the Parks Crew.
3. We are having lots of trouble with Swimmer's Itch at Lakeside Park beach this
summer. This will be the third time that we will have treated the lake already
this year. The winds have been coming from the south which is unusual,
carrying the untreated water to the beach, thus carrying in the swimmer's itch
from other parts of the lake.
4. Basketball goals were installed last week at Random Park parking lot and
Hillview Park rollerrink. This adds one other use to multi-purpose facilities. A
picnic table was installed at Lambert also.
RECREATION:
1. Congratulations to Sharie who pulled off a spectacular Senior's Picnic at Silver
View Park on Tuesday. Over 120 seniors attended the picnic - complete with
catered lunch, Moldy Figs entertainment, games and socializing. The weather
was perfect (Sharie knows how to pick em) and good fellowship was had by
all. We have 120 smiling faces in Mounds View! Thanks also to lots of others
who helped with the event including Brad, Marv, April, the Parks Crew and
Council Member Wuori. The City, Lion's Club and Western Bank co-sponsored
the event.
2. The MVAA sponsored AAU Baseball Tournament is scheduled this week at
Silver View Park. This is always a fun tournament to watch - so come and
spend a few hours at the park watching good baseball, Friday through Sunday,
June 24, 25 & 26. Concessions are available. The City offers maintenance
