support, scheduling and other support services which is justified in the
marketing of our City. This event brings over 500 players and spectators a day
(this is a conservative number) to the City. And, I think that we give them a
good perception of the City of Mounds View - as well as provide customers for
our City businesses.
3. Summer Playcenters and Butterflies Are Free are off to a good start this week.
We had an unusually large number of registrations at Hillview Park for
Playcenters and therefore made some arrangements to offer morning and
afternoon playcenter at this site in hopes of distributing the numbers for a more
workable situation.
The Butterflies Are Free program (4 & 5 year olds) is way down in registrations
this year for the first time that I can remember. I have not determined an
explanation for this yet other than a possible changing pattern in
demographics. The big bulge continues to be the 1st and 4th grade age
groups.
4. We have a great staff of Summer Playground Leaders - 12 college students, 3
high school students and 2 Jr. Volunteers. I have overheard the excitement of
participants already, - anxiously awaiting each new day's activities.
5. This week the girls and boys basketball camps have been held. In addition, a
CPR class taught by Lion's Ray Long and George Carlson has been in
session. First session swimming lessons also began. Everything seems to be
smoothly rolling.
6. The Garden Club has weeded the front entry, the MVCT has been busy with
rehearsals and the beginning of set construction, advertising and everything
else that needs to be done in the theater business.
GOLF COURSE:
1. The maintenance building sides are up and the floor is being poured this week.
The irrigations continues to be laid moving towards the east. The interceptor
project continues on schedule. Have you seen those huge ditches? Kurt has
been busy soliciting bids for equipment. Chad, the seasonal has been
laboring along the ditches. The pine grove looks great after his trim work.
2. Paul and Garrett and Kurt inspected the golf course progress Tuesday
afternoon. Clarifications regarding the trench drain in the maintenance building
was a issue that was resolved. We also added a drain in the ballwashing area
for the ballwashing machine.
