May 12, 1993
1-
RE: Potential extension of Greenwood Drive
Dear Owner:
In response to recent citizen inquiries into the potential for
extending Greenwood Drive north of Sherwood Road, the City is
providing this letter to those property owners who would be
directly affected in the event this extension took place.
Currently, the City has no plans to extend Greenwood Drive;
However, because of the aforementioned inquiries, the City would
like to take this opportunity to explain what steps would be
necessary in order for the extension to proceed.
Because the City does not have plans to extend Greenwood Drive at
this time, the project would need to be citizen initiated. A
petition requesting the establishment of a Special Assessment
District (S.A.D. ) for the purposes of constructing the roadway
would need to be circulated to all property owners who would be
affected by the project. This petition would then be forwarded to
the City Council which, based on the results of the petition (those
for vs. those against) , would decide if the establishment of the
S.A.D. was warranted.
The S.A.D. would allow the City to collect the costs associated
with the project from those properties directly benefitting from
the project. The cost to each property owner would vary, however,
the approximate cost to each individual property would be $100 per
linear foot of lot frontage.
I have included a map and list of property owners showing those
properties City Staff feels may be included should the project take
place. The exact properties included would depend on the length
and configuration of the roadway. Please note that the City
already has a portion of the right-of-way necessary for the
potential construction of Greenwood Drive (shown on the map as
unimproved road) . For the project to take place, a few of the
properties in the area would have to provide the City
