The Park, Recreation and Forestry Commission met on December 18, 2008, and reviewed five
applications: Gerald Arel, Dale Aukee, David Long, Paul Schiltgen and Betty Johnson. The
Park, Recreation and Forestry Committee recommended Gerald Arel, Dale Aukee, and David
Long to the Park, Recreation and Forestry Commission. In addition, the Commission
recommended Gerald Arel as the Chair and Dale Aukee as the Vice Chair of this Commission. .

Staff received six applications to the Planning Commission: Gary Stevenson, Jean Miller, Gary
Meehlhause, Gary Rundle, Paul Schiltgen, and Betty Johnson. On December 3, 2008, the
Planning Commission voted to recommend Gary Stevenson (3 year term), Jean Miller (3 year
term), Gary Meehlhause (3 year term), and Gary Rundle (2 year term – to finish Sherry Gunn’s
term).

Staff received three applications for the Police Civil Service Commission: Virgil Beyer, Dale
Federer, and Betty Johnson (the Police Civil Service Commission was Ms. Johnson’s 5th
choice). The Police Civil Service Commission did not meet in December, and therefore no
recommendations were made by them. This Commission only meets on an “as needed” basis.

Staff received two applications to the Streets and Utilities Committee: Nathan Bjerke and Betty
Johnson (the Streets and Utilities Committee was Ms. Johnson’s 4th choice). The Streets and
Utilities Committee did not meet in December, and therefore could not make a recommendation.

Recommendation:
Attached are all the submitted applications to these Commissions/Committees. I t is
recommended that the City Council consider these applications, and approve appointments to
their respective commission. Attached is Resolution 7383 for your consideration. I left the
Police Civil Service Commission and the Streets and Utilities Committee blank on the
Resolution because no recommendations were able to be made by that
Commission/Committee.

The City Council may also elect to not accept the recommendations from the Commissions and
appoint other candidates as it may see fit.

Respectfully submitted,
Desaree Crane
