December 22, 2008 Item No. 11B 1
Page 2
Historical Traffic Volumes on Red Oak Drive
Since Red Oak Drive is a State Aid street, it is on a regular counting schedule. The traffic
is counted every odd numbered year. Included with this Staff Report is a chart showing
the daily (24-hour) traffic volumes on Red Oak Drive from 1991 to 2008. Note that no count
was done in 2001. Also, an extra count was done in 2008.
The counts on Red Oak Drive are taken in three locations: just north of County Road 10,
just north of Hillview Road, and just south of Long Lake Road.
From the chart, it can be seen that the daily volume on Red Oak Drive just south of Long
Lake Road varied from 950 to 1,150 vehicles per day throughout most of the 1990’s. Then
from 1997 to 1999 the volume increased by approximately 50%, and the daily volume has
been in the range of 1,500 to 1,600 vehicles per day for every count since 1999.
Respectfully submitted,
Joseph R. Rhein, Consulting Engineer
Attachments:
- Sketch of traffic counts performed – Dec 2-4, 2008
- Daily traffic volume chart – Red Oak Drive: 1991-2008
