December 22, 2008 Item No. 7C
Page 5
x Hillview Road Storm Sewer:
The Design Team from Bonestroo met with the City Public Works Staff on
December 10, 2008 to review the final plans. The Public Works Staff had a
number of minor detailed comments which have since been incorporated into the
plan. However, the Public Works Staff also indicated a history of drainage
problems at the intersection of Hillview Road and Fairchild Avenue. After
investigation, it was determined to be possible to extend storm sewer along
Hillview Road from Red Oak Drive to Fairchild Avenue, to improve the drainage
at that location.
- This improvement has been included in the final plan, and is shown on
plan sheet C5.09 included with this Staff Report.
- The estimated construction cost of this storm sewer = $14,100
x Sanitary Sewer and Water Service Lines:
The construction plans include provisions for a small amount of work on sanitary
sewer and water service lines. The provisions allow for repair or replacement of
existing sanitary sewer service lines that may be identified during the course of
the work. It also allows for the installation of new sanitary sewer and water
service lines in the instance where a potential lot split is identified.
It should be noted that there is no utility service work currently planned in the
project. These items have been included in the plan so that prices are obtained
through the bidding process. This eliminates the need to negotiate prices if this
work is encountered during the construction.
The sanitary sewer and water services are owned by each individual property
owner. Therefore it should also be noted that any utility service work performed
would be done at the request of the private property owner, and would also be at
their sole expense. There would be no cost to the City for utility service work.
The estimated construction cost of the sanitary sewer and water service line work
included in the construction project is approximately $37,500.
x Silver Lake Woods (Lake Court Drive & Lake Court Circle):
The City Council ordered the public improvements and authorized the
preparation of plans and specifications for Lake Court Drive and Lake Court
Circle under Resolution 7353 on November 10, 2008. The Staff Report for that
item had indicated that the most efficient and cost effective way to accomplish
the improvements would be to combine them in the construction contract for the
2009-2010 Street and Utility Improvement Project.
