Mr. Hanggi assisted with activities such as hydrant flushing, training, and
general assistance in the Water Division or other areas, as needed. One
of the primary functions of Mr. Hanggi was to continue to train the current
lead utility operator, and to train and educate the water division. Mr.
Hanggi, being a former senior employee, was a great asset and
information resource for the City.

Staff is recommending that the City again attempt to take advantage of this
possible opportunity and create a part-time seasonal employee position. The
part-time seasonal employee position would be advertised with the requirement
that a successful applicant would posses a Class A water license. It is
recommended that this position would be paid an hourly rate equal to one-half
the hourly rate of the lead utility operator. Based on this, the wage for the part-
time seasonal employee position would be set at $13.25 per hour. This compares
to the rate of $12.50 per hour paid in 2007.

This part-time seasonal position will be established for a period no longer than
six months. City Council approval will be required should Staff recommend an
extension of this part-time employment.

The recommendations associated with the 2008 Seasonal Public Works
Positions were presented to the Human Resources Committee on February 11,
2008.

Recommendation:
Staff recommends that the Council approve the 2008 Seasonal Public Works
Positions.

Respectfully Submitted,

Greg Lee, Director of Public Works
