Proposed – Page 2 <br />OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES <br /> <br />○ Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor. <br />o Observe all safety rules and procedures. <br />o Answer administrative phones when needed. <br /> <br />The Community Service Officer (CSO) is assigned to the Patrol Division and reports <br />directly to the Deputy Chief. During the course of their duties, the CSO will come under <br />the authority of other supervisors and shall assist them as much as possible without <br />foregoing their assigned responsibilities. <br /> <br />The CSO shall abide by all state statutes, city ordinances, city and department rules <br />and regulations, general orders, procedural directives, and memoranda. W hile working <br />on the street, the CSO shall maintain radio communications with dispatch at all times <br />using proper radio procedures. <br /> <br />The CSO shall not drive marked police emergency vehicles unless directed to do so by <br />a supervisor. Defensive driving and courtesy to motorists and pedestrians shall be <br />observed at all times. The CSO will not conduct traffic stops, make custodial arrests, <br />transport prisoners, or handle in progress calls where a certified police officer is <br />necessary. <br /> <br /> <br />MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br /> <br />General: <br /> <br />(A) Must be 18 years older at the time of employment; <br />(B) Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid drivers license in any <br />State; <br />(C) No felony convictions of disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven <br />years; and <br />(D) Must be able to read and write the English language. <br /> <br />Education and Experience: <br /> <br />(A) High school diploma or GED equivalent; and <br />(B) One year of work experience involving public contact or customer service. <br /> <br />NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br /> <br />(A) Knowledge of CPR and first aid procedures; <br />(B) Ability to learn the City's geography; <br />(C) Ability to communicate effectively, in English, both verbally and in writing; <br />(D) Ability to learn and apply various rules and directions as set forth in state statutes, <br />city ordinances, and other directives related to law enforcement procedures;
