Mounds View City Council April 28, 2014 <br />Regular Meeting Page 3 <br /> <br />Mayor Flaherty inquired when the work would be completed. Mr. Pelton anticipated having the 1 <br />work done in the next 12 months. 2 <br /> 3 <br />Mayor Flaherty was pleased that the applicant has been speaking with his neighbors throughout 4 <br />this entire garage expansion process. 5 <br /> 6 <br />MOTION/SECOND: Mueller/Meehlhause. To Waive the Reading and Adopt Resolution 8248, 7 <br />Consideration of a Conditional Use Permit for an Oversize Garage at 8312 Red Oak Drive. 8 <br /> 9 <br /> Ayes – 5 Nays – 0 Motion carried. 10 <br /> 11 <br />B. Second Reading and Adoption of Ordinance 886, an Ordinance Amending 12 <br />Mounds View City Code Chapter 607 Relating to Commercial Vehicle 13 <br />Parking Regulations. 14 <br /> 15 <br />City Administrator Ericson stated the Council introduced Ordinance 886 at its April 14th 16 <br />meeting. This item was brought to the Council in January as numerous homeowners in Mounds 17 <br />View were bringing commercial vehicles home and parking them in their driveways during the 18 <br />day or overnight. He reported many of these vehicles were over the designated weight limits 19 <br />(Class E) allowed in City Code. 20 <br /> 21 <br />City Administrator Ericson reported the Council was proposing to expand the commercial 22 <br />vehicle limits to allow for a Class G weight limit in residential neighborhoods. It was noted the 23 <br />Ordinance would be restricting residents to only one commercial vehicle on residential 24 <br />properties. In addition, the commercial vehicles could have no more than six wheels, and must 25 <br />be licensed and operable. Staff reviewed the proposed Ordinance in further detail and 26 <br />recommended the Council adopt Ordinance 886. 27 <br /> 28 <br />Mayor Flaherty asked if anyone in the public wanted to speak on this item. 29 <br /> 30 <br />Cam Obert, 8315 Greenwood Drive, discussed the City of Brooklyn Park’s ban on commercial 31 <br />vehicles in residential areas. 32 <br /> 33 <br />MOTION/SECOND: Mueller/Gunn. To Waive the Second Reading and Adopt Ordinance 886, 34 <br />an Ordinance Amending Mounds View City Code Chapter 607 Relating to Commercial Vehicle 35 <br />Parking Regulations. 36 <br /> 37 <br />Council Member Meehlhause believed that times had changed since 1981 and more residents 38 <br />were working from their home. He supported the proposed change to Chapter 607 of City Code. 39 <br />He reiterated that residential properties would only be allowed to have one commercial vehicle 40 <br />parked on their property. 41 <br /> 42 <br />Mayor Flaherty supported the Ordinance as well. 43 <br /> 44 <br />ROLL CALL: Gunn/Hull/Meehlhause/Mueller/Flaherty. 45
