CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW <br />OFFICE OF THE MAYOR <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION FOR ARBOR DAY AND EARTH DAY <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in 1872, J. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture that <br />a special day be set aside for the planting of trees, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, This holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of more <br />than a million trees in Nebraska, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world, and also <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Earth Day is an annual event on which day, events worldwide are held to <br />demonstrate support for environmental protection, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, each year, Arbor Day is celebrated on the last Friday in April, and Earth Day is <br />observed every April 22; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Trees and forests improve our physical health by cleaning the air, reducing <br />exposure to the sun’s UV rays, and decreasing temperatures during the summertime; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Forests create high-quality drinking water by acting as a natural filter; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in 50 years, one tree provides $62,000.00 worth of air pollution control; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Trees and forests improve our mental health by reducing stress and increasing <br />concentration; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Getting a daily dose of trees is healthy for all Mounds View Residents and all <br />Minnesotans; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Minnesotans pay a special tribute to rural and community trees and all the <br />natural resources, and dedicate themselves to the continued vitality of our state’s forests. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, Carol A. Mueller, Mayor of the City of Mounds View, do hereby <br />proclaim the following: <br /> <br />1. Saturday, April 22, 2017, as “EARTH DAY”. <br />2. Friday, April 28, 2017, as “ARBOR DAY”. <br /> <br />in the City of Mounds View, and I urge all citizens to celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day and <br />support efforts to protect our trees and woodlands, including planting trees to promote the <br />well-being of this and future generations. <br /> <br />Given under my hand and Seal of the City of Mounds View, this 13th day of March, 2017. <br /> <br /> <br /> Carol A.
