Item No: 09H <br />Meeting Date: July 24, 2017 <br />Type of Business: Council Business <br />Administrator Review: ____ <br /> <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Don Peterson, Interim Director of Public Works <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8799 Approving the Expansion of the Hockey Rink <br />at Hillview Park <br /> <br />Background/Discussion: <br />The Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commission, along with Public Works staff, has <br />been evaluating options for the hockey rink at Hillview Park. The options have included <br />eliminating the rink, moving the rink north of its current location and making the hockey <br />rink larger. After examining these options, the Commission felt it would be best to leave <br />the rink in its general location but expand the length to the west. <br /> <br />The majority of the labor will be performed by Public Works staff. The post or metal frame <br />and chain link work will be contracted out. Staff has obtained a quote from Century Fence <br />of Forest Lake; they have performed this work for the City in the past. Additional work will <br />be performed by Public Works staff, including the removal of the asphalt surface, removal <br />of black dirt, installation of aglime, installation of new boards and painting of the boards. <br /> <br />The following is a breakdown of estimated costs for this project: <br /> <br />1) Century Fence $8,025.00 <br />2) Aglime $5,110.00 <br />3) New lumber for rink $1,715.00 <br />Total: $14,850.00 <br /> <br />Funding for this project would come from the Park Dedication Fund, account 451-4470- <br />7050, with a budget of $14,850.00 for the Hillview hockey rink. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff, along with the Parks and Recreation and Forestry Commission, is recommending <br />the City Council approve Resolution 8799 accepting the proposal from Century Fence for <br />$8,025.00 to install chain link fencing and posts as needed for the expansion of the <br />Hockey Rink at Hillview Park, along with the other costs for aglime and lumber, for a total <br />project cost not to exceed $14,850.00, to be funded from the Park Dedication account, <br />451-4470-7050. <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br /> <br />Don Peterson, Interim Director of Public Works <br />
