Item No: 09I <br />Meeting Date: July 24, 2017 <br />Type of Business: Council Business <br />Administrator Review: ____ <br /> <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Don Peterson, Interim Public Works Director <br /> Michael Richie, Public Works Project Coordinator <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8801, Approve Additional Funding for the City Hall and <br />Community Center Parking Lots Mill & Overlay Project <br /> <br />Background: <br />On June 12, 2017, the City Council approved Resolution 8764, which approved a construction contract with <br />Bituminous Roadways, Inc. for the City Hall and Community Center Parking Lots Mill & Overlay Project. In <br />addition to milling the bituminous surface and overlaying with asphalt, this project includes removing and <br />replacing sections of concrete sidewalk and concrete curb and gutter that are in disrepair. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />During the initial site inspection, an estimated quantity of 120 linear feet for concrete curb and gutter and <br />110 square feet of sidewalk to be removed and replaced was determined. However, after an in-depth <br />inspection of the condition of the concrete curb and gutter and sidewalks at City Hall and the Community <br />Center, it was decided that additional quantities would need to be added to the project. <br /> <br />As a result, staff discussed the possibility of adding additional sidewalk, and curb and gutter replacement <br />with Bituminous Roadways, Inc. Since Bituminous Roadways, Inc. has not started the project, the <br />additional 160 linear feet of concrete curb and gutter, and 440 square feet of concrete sidewalk can add to <br />the project at the same unit price that they proposed in bid. <br /> <br />The awarded unit price for this work is $45.45 per linear foot of concrete curb and gutter and $22.90 per <br />square foot of concrete sidewalk. This would result in an additional $17,348.00. The current contract <br />amount is $106,880.25. The 2017 Street Improvement Fund (485-4700-7050) includes $150,000 for the <br />City Hall and Community Center parking lots mill and overlay. The existing contingency of $10,700 would <br />not be increased. The table below details the changes proposed by the additional work.
