T here will be a pre-construction <br />open house Sunday, F eb. 19, noon to 3 p.m. Courtesy <br />of city of Coon Rapids <br />http://abc new s papers.com/2012/01/27/remodeler -hired-f or-home-f or-generations -project/Februray 28, 2012 <br />Remodeler hired fo r Home for Gen eratio n s p ro ject <br />by Peter B odley <br />Managing Editor <br />A contractor has been hi red by the Coon Rapi ds Housing and Redevelopment Authori ty (HRA) to <br />remodel the fi fth home acqui red by the ci ty as part of its Home for Generations program. <br />The Home for Generati ons program was launched in 2009 to purchase vacant/foreclosed, older, <br />di fferent-style si ngle-family homes in the community, rehabi litate them and then sell them to recover <br />the HRA ’s costs, not to make a profi t. <br />The purpose has also been to demonstrate to resi dents owning older homes in the city how <br />remodeling projects can update their home to modern standards. <br />Since then four older homes have been purchased, remodeled and sold. <br />The fi fth home is a 1960 rambler at 11635 X avi s St. N.W., whi ch was vacant and foreclosed when <br />purchased by the HRA for $86,000 last year. <br />Legacy Homes Inc. will do the remodeli ng, but before the company starts work, a pre-constructi on <br />open house has been scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 19, noon to 3 p.m. <br />At that resi dents can see the condi tion of the home before remodeling takes place. <br />Another open house wi ll take place midway through the remodeling process,. <br />Then once remodeling is complete, a seri es of open houses will be scheduled when the ci ty puts the <br />remodeled home on the market. <br />Accordi ng to K risti n DeGrande, ci ty nei ghborhood coordinator, the goal i s to have the remodeli ng <br />complete by May 1. <br />Requests for proposal for the remodeli ng work were sent to some 180 area contractors. <br />The contractors were requi red to attend one of three open houses that ci ty staff hosted at the Xavis <br />Street home before thei r proposal could be considered, D eGrande sai d. <br />“The purpose was for contractors to see what the home looks li ke and get ideas for remodeling <br />before submitti ng a proposal,” she said.
