The attached applications have been labeled Candidate A and Candidate B to allow for discussion without mentioning specific names. The Mounds View Citizenship Award is scheduled to be presented at the April 19, 2008, Town Hall Meeting. If the award recipient cannot attend the Town Hall Meeting then the City Council my consider presenting the award at a regular meeting. Based on the City Council’s recommendations, Staff will present a Resolution for adoption at the March 10, 2008, Meeting and a plaque will be prepared for a formal presentation at the annual Town Hall Meeting. C. Volunteer Coach of the Year The Parks and Recreation Commission has developed a Volunteer Coach of the Year Award and has named it after Patrick “Homer” Holmes. The Commission has developed selection criteria, criteria for eligible candidates, the process for approval, and a timeline for this award. The Parks and Recreation Commission would like to present the 2007 Volunteer Coach of the Year at the April 19, 2008, Town Hall Meeting, and have it awarded to Patrick Holmes. Either Staff or the Parks and Recreation Commission will contact the Holmes Family about his event. Below are the guidelines for future awards. Selection Criteria: Sportsmanship: Demonstrates exemplary sportsmanship both on and off the field Leadership: Leads his or her team by showing leadership and attempting to instill leadership skills in the players Attitude: Happily expends a significant amount of time and energy to the betterment of the sport Encouragement: Consistently encourages participation by all and encourages others to do their best. Unselfishness: Does not expect anything in return for his or her actions; i.e. financial compensation, fame, or political notoriety. This award would be open to all coaches involved with coaching Mounds View youth. The final recommendation would come through the Commission and forwarded for approval by the City Council. Eligible Candidates: This award is open to all coaches involved with coaching Mounds View youth.
