OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS -4- SEPTEMBER 20, 1993
Moundsview Mayor Linke stated that the MN Highway Department had
approached both cities with this project about five years ago and
when the cities of Spring Lake Park and Moundsview came to
agreement the highway department seemed to have abandoned the
project. Since this time every spring we get a letter from the
highway department stating that they are going to close off this
intersection and it has yet to happen. So working together with
Spring Lake Park, we have come up with this layout presented
tonight.
Councilmember Trude asked Mayor Linke if it was his feeling that it
was time to address this problem. Mayor Linke answered
affirmatively.
Mayor Wells commented that with the design on the north side of the
intersection, the cities have gone back and forth with MNDOT to
come up with the best plan to allow the least amount of traffic on
the Moundsview side of the intersection, i.e. the disign of the
curve, the center island, etc., trying to take into consideration
that this is a residential street and not a through streeet.
Councilmember Trude commented that she can see where this would
impact the Moundsview traffic, with more people using the exit at
Pleasantview when signalized.
Mayor Linke responded that they took this into consideration when
making the design of the intersection and making it a little more
difficult to make that swing onto north bound Pleasantview.
Mayor Linke stated that it looked to him like this project would
not be taking place until 1995 to 1997 and asked Mayor Wells if the
senior housing project would be starting in the spring.
Mayor Wells responded that the senior housing project would like to
get started this fall with approval of the Planning and Zoning
Commission and the City Council.
Mayor Linke stated that this is something he will have to take back
to the Council at Moundsview. This project at Pleasantview and
Highway 10 was basically approved by both Councils several years
ago, and had actually passed a resolution approving the project.
However, he would like to take the proposal back to his city to
review the alignment of the intersection and generally look the
whole plan over again.
Mayor Wells stated that there was no need to come to a decision
tonight. This joint meeting was called for the purpose of sharing
ideas.
5. Renaming of Lakeside Park
Mayor Wells stated that there was a second item on the Agenda that
both cities should talk about and pass action on, and that is to
