DEPARTMENTAL BUDGET NARRATIVE <br />FIND: General <br />DEPARTMENT: City Council <br />DEPARTMENT OBJECTIVE <br />The City Council Budget funds the activities of the Mayor and City Council the policy - <br />making body of the City. <br />DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES <br />The Department includes the elected positions of Mayor and four Councilmembers. <br />Activities of the City Council, besides setting policies and overseeing the City's <br />administration include: publication of legal notices, conducting City events and programs <br />such as the Appreciation Dinner, Council/Staff Picnic and the Annual Council/Staff <br />Goalsetting Session as well as participating in intergovernmental programs such as the <br />Ramsey County League of Local Governments and the Association of Minnesota Mayors. <br />DEPARTMENT GOALS <br />Each year the Council and Staff participate in a GoalsettingiTeambuilding Session. The <br />purpose of the session is to conduct strategic planning for the future of the City. At the <br />session, the vision of the City is examined in terms of services, activities, image, and <br />development. From this vision, goals are developed for a one year to five year timeframe. <br />Subsequent to the Goalsetting session, work -pans are developed by staff to include the activity <br />steps necessary to accomplish the desired goals. In March, 1993, Council and Staff set the <br />following goals for 1993 - 1997 (attached). <br />199u DEPARTMENT EXPENDITI'RE COMMENTS <br />The Supplies/Operating Account includes the following activities: <br />Funding for, <br />The Annual Appreciation Dinner <br />Council/Staff Picnic <br />Annual Council/Staff Goalsetting Session <br />General Operating Supplies <br />Funding for the cost of legal notices and of complying with the <br />"Truth In Taxation" mandate of the State Legislature. <br />
