Item No. 8I <br /> Meeting Date: March 12, 2007 <br />Type of Business: Consent <br />City Administrator Review _______ <br /> City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Jim Ericson, Community Development Director <br />Subject: Resolution 7042 Authorizing Out of State Travel and Conference <br />Attendance <br />Background: <br /> <br />On March 25, 2002, the City Council approved a Purchasing Policy which includes <br />a section on TRAVEL, CONFERENCES, SCHOOLS, & TRAINING. Section 4.1 <br />indicates that the City will reimburse employees for reasonable business travel <br />expenses incurred while on assignments away from the normal work location. All <br />out of state business travel however must be approved in advance by the City <br />Council. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br />The 2007 Budget approved by the City Council includes a line item in account no. <br />100-4180-3630 for attendance at the national planning conference out of state. <br />Despite having budgeted $1,900 specifically for this conference, staff is seeking <br />Council reaffirmation of this out of state travel expenditure to permit the community <br />development director to attend the national planning conference in April of this <br />year. The planning conference begins April 14 and concludes April 18. The <br />sessions and seminars attended will provide the attendee and City by extension <br />invaluable training and professional development. Some of the sessions to be <br />attended include land use law, trailway management, comprehensive planning, <br />engaging residents in city issues, sustainable development, evolution of home <br />based businesses, housing technology innovations, cell and radio towers <br />legislation, wetland zoning issues, mixed use development realities and many <br />other items of particular interest in Mounds View. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Resolution 7042 is attached for Council action which reaffirms the expenditure of <br />funds for out of state travel for the community development director to attend the <br />national planning conference in Philadelphia from April 14 through April 18, 2007. <br /> <br />Respectfully Submitted, <br /> ________________________ <br />Jim Ericson <br />Community Development Director <br /> <br /> <br />
