The information attached to this memorandum explains
the concern regarding funding of the L&WCF and Outdoor Recreation Grant Program. The Legislative
Committee of the Minnesota Recreation & Parks Association has prepared the resolutions and the
attached informational flyer. This is an attempt of the MRPA to protect funding for communities
regarding park development funding. As you are probably aware, L&WCF funding was used for both the
acquisition and Phase I development of Silver View Park and development of Greenfield Park many years
ago. The funding since then has decreased, although the demand has increased.
These two resolutions, along with many other cities' resolutions will be delivered to the Minnesota
Recreation & Parks Association where they will be delivered in mass to Congressional Representatives and
key State Legislators. The message that is trying to be conveyed is that the continued funding of L&WCF
and Outdoor Recreation Grant Programs are important to the State.
Thank-you for your support of these resolutions.
c_.....7"7, -
.e'er
rY
Saarion, Director
Parks, R. , eation and Forestry Department
Consideration for approval of the resolutions supporting expanded
funding for the State's Outdoor Recreation Program to help local
governments throughout Minnesota provide adequate outdoor recreation
opportunities, acquire and protect open space areas and improve the
RECOMMENDATIONz quality of life for present and future generations, AND urging the
increase in the allocation of LAWCON funds for local government and
state park projects to help provide adequate outdoor recreation
opportunities, acquire and protect open space areas and improve the
quality oflife for present and future generations.
